It was three years ago, during a hot and humid morning of August, when Francesca was waiting for me to land at Dubai International Airport. We were meeting for the first time, and with that day a beautiful friendship started. This 23rd of August, I had the pleasure to be part of her wedding with Yusuf, dinner which was hosted at the place they’ve met, The JW Marriott Marquis. The buffet dinner at Kitchen 6 was delicious. I absolutely loved the desserts and of course the cheese section was my heaven.
Fran and Yusuf, I wish I can describe in words the warm feelings you always pass to me when I am around you two. You are an amazing support for each other and I feel truly blessed to have you as my friends 🙂 I wish you both a great marriage and as we say in Romanian “Casa de piatra!”
Nicole is my flatmate.
It was 5 o’clock. We were sitting in the kitchen, smoking, and looked bored. The weekend just started but it looked like a Monday. Outside was cloudy and windy but still hot. We went on the balcony. We lighted another cigarette. We contemplated at the city around us. Later on, i’ve turned on my camera.
Few days back, me and my friend Adriana went for an afternoon walk to my new favorite spot in Dubai, DIFC! I just love this place! Very few people around during the weekend ,so its a great place to hang out till the weather is still good. There was also a photo exposition which i found it pretty cool. Most of the shops were closed (maybe cos was Friday?) however, you can get a warm coffee and a heathy lunch at the cafes around.
Have a great week February lovers!
Hi all! As promised earlier this week, this awesome post is dedicated to the amazing and unique ring series collection by Vika Tonu.see her page here:https://www.facebook.com/vikadesign?fref=ts
When i first saw the collection, i immediately knew that the ring representing my zodiacal sign, is actually a reflection of myself as an individual. Therefore, the best thing to do, is to share this unique concept with all of you and hoping that you will find yourself in any of these creations.
Vika was willing to give me some insights about how all started, so you can have a better picture about the meaning of this beautiful ring series.
M: Hi Vika! How did you start “Dimiourgia” project?
V: “Dimiourgia” was born from a happy ‘accident’. If I can call it so, when during a play, I created a ring that immediately reminded me of the Greek letter OMEGA. The second step was taking a look at the Greek alphabet and realizing that each letter can be transformed into a wearable ring. From that point followed months of research into Greek culture, loads of sketches, samples in various materials, constantly redesigning and simplifying the shapes.
I believe in the power of the planets and in the fact that their course is influencing human behaviour. It is all so fascinating and at the same time hard to perceive and fully understand. The fact that the Greeks were so preoccupied with this aspect since ancient times, only made my theme stronger and my research deeper. There are several beliefs and theories, and this is why I decided to combine them and come up with my own interpretation of the correlation between Greek letters- Planets- Constellations- symbols and Zodiacal signs.
The whole alphabet (24 letters) was quite a challenge for me considering the deadline, so i decided to choose one powerful world, which can contain all the vowels (considered special and with sacred history) and that can summarize the whole idea. The word “Dimiourgia” means Creation, and can be interpreted in many ways.
M: What does this collection mean to you and to those who will wear your rings?
V: My first collection is also my last uni project for the Resistant Materials Module, so it has a great importance for me; both my debut into the ‘real world’ as an artist and the result of 3 years of learning and development.
I tend to look for symbolism and hidden meaning when i create, and i guess this ring series is a proof of that. Rings are in their essence symbols, but adding more to them si that the wearers can actually identify themselves with a particular piece is my touch. I hope my rings will create a special relationship with their wearers, reminding them about their personality, uniqueness, and the fact that they are daily protected by celestial bodies.

‘Delta’ is the letter corresponding to the sign of Gemini, having its element attached – AIR. Ruled by the planet of Mercury it protects intellectual pursuits, balances the opposites and creates peace and friendship among people.
As a sign, Gemini symbolizes the ambivalent equilibrium of the cosmos, the balance of contemplative and active life and the creative energies of the mind.

‘Eta’ is the letter for the EARTH sign of Virgo, also having Mercury as a ruler.
Astrologically, Virgo denotes the logical powers of the mind, the ability to unify and negotiate. It also represents a receptive intelligence that accepts the spiritual seed in order to uncover new forms of life and knowledge, and the repression of instinct.

‘Mu’ has correspondences for two AIR signs – Libra and Aquarius.

Soon this week! Dimiourgia ring series by Vika Tonu!
‘Δημιουργία’ (n. gr. ‘Creation’) series explores the concept of individual/self, represented by symbols, having as a starting point the ancient Greek language, with its multiple correlations into alchemy, astrology and astronomy.
On her own interpretation of the Greek alphabet, where each letter is represented by a planet or a Zodiacal sign, thus a corresponding individual element such as air (semicircle), fire (triangle), water (circle), earth (square); Vika used wisely these elements that form the word DIMIOURGIA, and put them together into a wearable concept of ring series.
Stay tuned for an elaborated post about these fantastic creations!
Few days back, I had the tremendous pleasure to sit and enjoy a delicious chocolate mouse and a friendly chat at The Address Dubai Mall Hotel, with Bogdan Lascar and his beautiful girlfriend Laura. I took the time to dedicate this special post exclusively to Bogdan and his amazing pieces of arts. Bogdan’s works are already very well know and highly appreciated all around Dubai, especially after last year exhibition with the concept “Neurophysiologic shapings” at the beautiful Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa. For those of you that are not yet familiar with Bogdan Lascar, he is a graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bucharest, Romania with the main focus on sculpture, graphic design and film.
When I first saw his works, I was so impressed and driven beyond and above his view regarding meta-visual human expression based on the report between spiritual, corporal and obiectual within the meaning of the medical concept of neurophysiology. His approach to this neo contemporary manifestation adds value to a different way of communication and expression, which further expresses a new patten of perception, thus directs to the current visual artistic phenomenon. The work, based on the visual object itself is relieved by interior symbolism and captures a nostalgic allure where contradictory elements are born at times ranging from organic buildings to kinetic engineering accompanied by subtle landscapes having an almost Baroque impact.
I believe that the pictures of his fantastic works of art will make you step ahead in his abstract world of evolutionary and physical level.
